A brief meeting, after a show:

Adrienne was completely oblivious to the fact that Alex was asking what her name was so he could sign her CD and it wasn't until Kendra was throwing her arms around her shoulders that she snapped out of it.

“Her name is Adrienne,” Kendra was saying. “Even spelled like the song!”

All Adrienne could immediately do was nod and offer a sheepish smile.

It was one thing Alex never skimped on, the meet and greet after the show, no matter how wiped he was, no matter how long it took, those with passes, those who bought CDs, got their stuff signed. Alex's fingers were already smudged black from the Sharpie in hand when the girls approached.

Then

With his gum rolling around from one side of his mouth to the other, Alex looked between the two. The blonde's enthusiasm had Alex chuckling, a smile sent to her and then he was looking at her friend who'd gone silent. It happened. Young girls who had an entire speech planned out in their head until the moment they got face to face and then they locked up. Then the blonde was telling him her brunette friend's name was Adrienne, and he laughed.

"It was bound to happen, sooner or later.” He smiled, hand offered out to take whatever they offered to be signed, he regarded the girl with a smile. “It’s okay I promise I won’t bite.” Too soon?

The joke snapped her out of her stupor and she laughed, shaking her head. "No, of course not. Sorry." Realizing Alex was holding out his hand, Adrienne flipped the CD case open and pulled the jacket out of it to hand to him. She rarely managed to keep a jewel case from cracking at some point, so better he sign the jacket instead.

"That was a really good show," Adrienne said with a smile. Like many of the girls around them, including Kendra, she wasn't a super fan so she wasn't as tongue tied as some of the others and he seemed pretty...normal!

If one could call riding around the country in a bus full of band mates and roadies, falling asleep in airports, being thrown to the floor of the bus every time the driver had to make a sudden stop, or losing your toothbrush in the toilet of said bus because you fell asleep while brushing your teeth normal... Then yeah, Alex was pretty normal. Alex took the jacket and signed it with his usual, All the love, AV, but he also wrote Adrienne, thanks for coming to the show above that, before he offered it back to her.

"Come and see us any time." He grinned at her, his gum rolling back the other way as he reached for whatever it was that Kendra had for him to sign.

"Oh, I'm sure we will. Thank you." Smiling, she took the jacket back from him, but didn't put it away just yet. Had to get signatures from the rest of the band, after all!

Once she was done and through the line, Adrienne slipped the jacket back into the jewel case, which she then tucked into her jacket pocket. She watched with amusement as Kendra gushed at the others as much as she had her 'future baby daddy'. When Kendra reached her and the exit, she threw her arms around Adrienne's shoulders in a drunken hug.

"This was so awesome," she said, dreamily. "Aren't they so hot?!"

"Mmhm," was all Adrienne responded, looping her arm around her friend's waist and guiding her out. With one more glance over her shoulder, she couldn't help laughing as she led them outside.

Alex watched as she walked away, then chuckled, taking the next item handed to him, and signing it with the All the love, AV, before handing it back. He'd give one more glance in the direction that the namesake for one of their hits went; a was smile given to her as she looked back, before focusing on the fans before him.

Now

A relationship fourteen years in the making:

A chance encounter in a diner, Alex was on the way out as Adrienne was on the way in.   A conversation struck up, phone numbers exchanged.

In the beginning, it was meant to be casual after the end of Alex's marriage, but that soon went to the wayside as each discovered feelings for the other. Inseparable, Adrienne soon moved in with Alex, and that promethean heat that had been rekindled earlier, spilled over.

It wasn't supposed to happen.  It wasn't supposed to be possible, but an elevated body temp, due to the previous relationship between Alex and one very special woman, made possible the impossible.
